- TWIL (This Week I Learned)
This week I contemplated our super powers.
A quote from an old trainer, Ed Natyshak, kept popping into my head as I went about my week: “Use your super powers for good.” Tongue-in-cheek but also quite seriously, after our workouts he often said this to us as we sat there, contemplating that we had just done what we had thought impossible.
I don’t actually know much about comic book super powers — everything I do know I learned from my kids and has left me very confused.
But as for “real” super powers, what I kept returning to this week was that serious training and a good sense of humor are essential, imho.
2. Quote
“Use your super powers for good” — Ed Natyshak
3. Prompt
I fully understand if you think that “use your super powers for good” is an over used cliche.
Moving on :)
What are yours? And…
…have you ever noticed when you have experienced a “crucible” time in your life that you have had the chance to develop your “super powers”?
What has been extremely helpful for me over the past week (and so I would like to pass it on) is a reckoning of growth. The past year for many of us has been a time of character development — deeply challenging workouts for our mental and emotional selves. I wonder if it’s time for you as well to have a quiet reckoning, a realization of, “Wow, that happened.”
4. Quest
And maybe you are still in a crucible. Or, perhaps you are in a moment in your life where things are just all peaches and cream.
If it works for you, notice growth/maturation this week. Notice growth/maturation in yourself and people around you. Notice what growth looks like (hint:since we are human, growth often looks awkward, “organic” higglety-pigglety)
5. Level-UP / Go Deeper
And sometimes I think we have “growing pains” often in the middle of a “growth spurt” — so be kind and gentle with yourself if your only response is one of not seeing any growth anywhere this week. Patience.
